This isn't exactly a salad recipe but something I did by accident and it came out great!!
As I'm supposed to have salads every day, and no way can I afford to buy all the separate ingredients, I usually buy a bag of the salad fixings - something like Spring Mix is good. Then I'll buy whatever to use with it - grape tomatoes for example - that may be on sale.
Last week I went to make my usual salad. Grabbed a couple handfuls of fixings, added some chopped grape tomatoes, some onion pieces, poured on my low fat ranch dressing and grabbed a handful out of the box of croutons I always use. Add some chopped walnuts and off I went to enjoy my salad.
Took one mouthful and it didn't taste the same!! I picked at it ...lettuce & fixings were fine. Sniffed it...smelled fine. But I didn't notice any croutons! Went back to my cupboard to find I'd grabbed the Muslix cereal instead of the croutons box!! They were both almost the same size and colour...so I had just reached in the cupboard and grabbed the green box!
Surprisingly it was delicious!!! Especially mixed with the chopped walnuts!! I added a slice of 12 grain bread with garlic butter on it, and a bowl of yogurt with (thawed) frozen fruits and a bottle of water and had a great, healthy supper!!
So next time you want a little different taste for your salad toppings...nix the croutons and add Muslix!

What a great tip Nancy. The best recipes usually start by accidents like this.
For those of you not familiar with Muslix cereal -- it is a Kellogg product and consists of a blend of sun-ripened fruit, nuts, and whole grain flakes.
With such a tasty blend of wholesome ingredients it is no wonder your salad turned out so good.
You should contact the Kellogg company .... they might pay you money for this great recipe suggestion! Well worth the try.
