Any random thoughts we want to get out there. # 1. I'm tired of all the carry-on on the TV leading up to our Federal election on 21st August. # 2. It is a gorgeous day again today.... and I noticed the Jacaranda trees have not lost their leaves, they should be getting ready for all the beautiful mauve blossoms with no leaves at the end of October.... wonder what will happen. # 3. DH has been getting our bikes ready to ride again, just need some valves to keep the tyres up! # 4. A friend is calling in this afternoon. She usually comes on Thursday, so I rang this morning, and they have been away over the past week. Her hubby has had a lot of treatment on his face for cancer..... from what she said he isn't feeling too positive at the moment. #5. Now to have a peek at my People's Friend, the only magazine I buy. It comes from the UK and has a lot of feel-good short stories, and I've made two knitted tops from it for myself this year already. Attachments:

Five thoughts Friday ..... mine this week have come as a result of some advise given in the book I am reading, The Pillars of the Earth. The part I just completed reading was about the death of a man's wife and the grief suffered by the man .... the following advice was given to this man ..... The living must take care of the living. Simple enough words but when you think about them they speak volumes. (1) I think the World Health Organization said it well way back in 1948 that health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Social Well Being are the key words here -- goes back to the advise given in the book. The living must take care of the living. (2) This Kenyan proverb is also a very good thought -- Treat the Earth well. It was not given to you by your parents. It was loaned to you by your children. Key word here -- children. The living must take care of the living. (3) St. Francis of Assisi said: Start by doing what’s necessary, then what’s possibleand suddenly you are doing the impossible.Necessary, possible and impossible -- three very important keywords. Most importantly perhaps is "impossible" which after all is often simply the untried. The living must take care of the living. (4) Not one us knows what lies in store for us but I feel in my heart that the happiest among us will be those who have sought and found a way to serve. (5) Last but not least I think we must always remember that the the most important things in life aren’t things. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Hi Jan -- so sorry to hear about your friend's husband.
Also with respect to your magazine, People's Friend; I think I have seen that in stores here or something very similar ... I must have a look next time I am out.

Yes it would be the same magazine, Sharon, good for a an hour or so of light hearted reading, and a lot of the stories are set in days gone by, though they always have a happy ending! That is quite an essay you have written, Sharon. Suppose all through the history of mankind, it is the living being able to take care of the living, and choosing to do so, that makes us a society, though it is seen in the animal kingdom also. Indeed, we have heard a lot about people who make 'things' their God, and miss out on joy, contentment and happiness I am glad you are reading the book. And friends, look forward to your thoughts, simple or more complicated.... and if you don't have five thoughts to post, any will be welcomed!!! Attachments:

# 1. I am thinking about the break we have gotten in the hot weather. # 2. About daughter and grand daughters camping and having a great time. # 3. The busy day my hubby and I had today. We went to Sam's Club shopping. A large Warehouse Store here in Rockford. Got good prices on items for the pantry.Stocking up for winter months so we don't run out when its bad weather. You didn't have to be a member to shop their today.
# 4. Thinking about us going to the Rockford City Market too. Got some home grown fresh veggies. Had a big fresh salad for dinner.
#5. Thinking about being able to stay up later tonight on the computer.Dont have to get up really early in the morning. No place have to be tomorrow morning.

Hope the break in the weather keeps up Barb. It will be good to see all the pics when the campers return. We have a Sams Warehouse, but they don't have groceries. Fresh veges are always delicious, I'm always grateful too, to have such nice food. Attachments:

Well Jan I was out getting a new dog crate for Maddy this afternoon and looked for the magazine but as luck would have it, I could not find it. Oh well I know I have seen it somewhere ...
Do you think I got a little too involved with the five thoughts .... I have a tendency to be a bit of a deep thinker sometimes -- can't help it though.
I have to go send out a notice about tomorrow's Weekend Snippets Saturday .... I will try to be brief with my post, lol -- no promises though.
Speaking of Saturday, I am going to drive to Campbell River to visit with the kids at their campsites so I will miss chat -- so sorry. Yvonne is coming with me so it will be a nice quick get away.

Sharon, about your question - yes some of us chat about our everyday topics, which is more my style, you also add new thoughts and topics, and that is a good thing.
I hope members will add as simply or as complex as they wish. In posts other places, I've seen some mention highlights from the week, or books they've read in previous months, flowers or veggies in their garden, all sorts of ideas.
It is a good way to start discussion, bring in new ideas.
