The festival of Christmas takes place on 25th December, every year to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and it is taken as a day that reflects the power, glory and salvation of Jesus Christ and his message of hope to the world. Christmas is from Christes Maesse, which means Christ Mass and has turned out to be one of the most popular festivals that fills joy, happiness and love in people's lives. Here is a countdown to Christmas website -- yes I know it is early but I am hoping this year we can each individually strive to do what we can to limit the commercialism of Christmas. www.auburn.edu/~vestmon/xmas_cnt.htmIn keeping with that I would really like to know what the best Christmas Gift (or any gift for any reason for that matter) you've ever received was and what made it so special. Thanks .... I believe the only way to stop the spending spree during the holidays is to share these ideas and to perhaps modify them to suit our own personal gift giving this year! Now I am thinking about what I just posted and there have been several memorable gifts. The first and second come to mind because I just left a wonderful chat with Jan and Daphne and the gifts involve these two wonderful ladies. Jan sent me a bookmark that she made and I treasure it ... I do not use it because I believe it to be too special to use and I have been told that this is not the correct thing to do. Last night in conversation at dinner out with my daughter and her step mother-in-law it seemed to be the general concensus that "special" gifts are to be used. I have some difficulty with this as I would prefer to "preserve it for all time", a display and show type of thing if you follow what I mean. What do you think? The second that comes instantly to mind is the gift of the first rose off Daphne's rose bush in her garden. I found this to be so moving .... I was not familiar with a tradition of giving away the first flower, etc. and I found it to be a very emotional gesture. I am not known to openly show my emotions (I guess I was raised to be humble and on the conservative side) but this will stay in my memories forever. Now I understand that it is not possible to present such a gift, particularly from gardens of the Great White North at Christmas time, but I would hopefully buy seed packets to include in Christmas cards (particularly something native to my corner of the globe or something along that line) and I remember one year buying some bulbs that bloom indoors during Christmas if you start them soon enough and that would be lovely too for people on my list and of course there are always poinsettia plants that could be purchased inexpensively. Just some thoughts and I realize there are still costs involved with these ideas. What I like is that there is care and consideration going into who to get or make what for and not the random buying for the sake of buying. I know I will be coming up with more but I would love to hear yours. Sharon Attachments:

Now just keep reminding me, Sharon, I usually spend a lot on family gifts, and I would like to cut back a bit this year. Other people seem to find such good gifts, and I am never confident of mine.... perhaps it is because I hate shopping and never browse, just rush in and shop when I need something.... so I don't know where the good buys are. I think the best gifts have been family photos. And I am going to say something that you might think is sad.... but the best gifts I've got are the ones I've bought for myself... Barry and I give each other money and then we go and buy what we want, though we usually have some little surprises as well. Attachments:

No Jan, I do not think that is sad at all especially if going shopping and spending that money is enjoyable for you.
For me for several years now the gift I love the most is the gift of time. I am fortunate to have Yvonne with me and to see a lot of Kendra, Paul and Rebekah but not seeing Norman, Ashley and Kadynce very often creates a sadness and a void in my life. My wish would be for them to realize how important it is for me to see them .... time together -- their time with me and the girls ... that would be all I would ever ask. Oh well, I seem a bit melancholy this evening, I do not mean to be.
Don't worry about not being a good shopper by the time Christmas arrives we will have all the answers, lol!!!!!!!!
