Quite by accident I stumbled across information about a schedule change for Train 513 only to discover something I did not know until just now. Amtrak operates between Vancouver, B.C. Canada and Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, B.C. and Portland, Oregon. Amazing and downright wonderful! En route, between Vancouver and Seattle, the train stops to pick up passengers at Edmonds, WA, Everett, WA, Mt Vernon-Burlington, WA and Bellingham, WA. Between Portland and Seattle, en route to Vancouver, the train stops at Vancouver, WA, Kelso/Longview, Centralia, Olympia, Tacoma and Tukwila. www.bcpassport.com/vancouver-public-transportation/vancouver-train-travel.aspxUsually when I go to the USA it is with my daughter and her dogs for a dog show so we would still have to use our private vehicle and be patient during the long waits at the border but for others what a marvelous thing this is. Irene I was particularly thinking of you when you come up to visit your children in Vancouver. Might be worth a try -- or have you travelled this way before. I remember your story about the trip at Thanksgiving and how bad the weather was -- you would be able to just sit back and relax going by train and I think the cost is reasonable. Sharon Attachments:

Thanks for the thought Sharon. We would still need a vehicle to get from the train to Maple Ridge. Unfortunately public transit to and from the suburbs is appalling. It can take 3-4 hrs. to get from Vancouver to MR. Now that the new Golden Ears bridge is operational it takes approx. 3 hrs door to door. We have NEXUS cards so seldom have to wait at the border. Do you sail to Tsawwassen or Port Angeles? Attachments:

Duke Point (Nanaimo) to Tsawwwassen as we live very close to the Duke Point terminal. I would love to take the Port Angeles ferry one day -- perhaps next time we head over.
Do you live close to the Port Angeles terminal?

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I believe we are about 4 1/2 hours by road from Port Angeles. That makes Tsawwassen via I-5 much closer for us. If you are heading south of Tacoma it would be a much more scenic route than I-5. I hope to try it one of these days. The current fare is much cheaper $55 each way for vehicle and driver. Last time we went to Victoria from Tsawwassen it cost over $100.00 each way. cohoferry.com/main/?fares

I wouldn't mind going on that train. I bet it's a lovely journey. Bet there's some great views to see as well.
