There are only approximately 30,000 Australians in Canada. This low level of migration reflects an unspoken agreement among the former British colonies that they would not recruit immigrants from each other and generally the Australian and Canadian governments tried to avoid recruitment campaigns in each other’s countries. That being said the majority of Australian migrants settled in western Canada; in Alberta and British Columbia. Outside western Canada, the Australian born population is located almost exclusively in Ontario and is centred in the Toronto and Ottawa regions. There are very few Australians living in Quebec or in the Atlantic and prairie provinces. Enjoy reading about some of our Australian Canadians here. Sharon Attachments:

Joy Newall - Award-winning writer and activist was born March 5, 1929 in Australia and moved to Canada at 26, settling in Ontario, where she lived until 1982 and then moved to my corner of the globe, Nanaimo. Not only was she an award-winning writer for the long-running CBC television show Mr. Dressup but she was also a staunch advocate of prisoner's rights; particularly female prisoners. She was outraged in 2004 when she discovered that there were no female guards at the RCMP lockup and no women's prison facilities on Vancouver Island and she sought to bring a chapter of the Elizabeth Fry Society (community-based societies that work with and for women and girls in the justice system, particularly those who are, or may be, criminalized) to Nanaimo. She was a strong believer in both women’s and native rights. This remarkable social justice activist, died Nov. 6; she was 81. She tirelessly advocated for peace and social justice for women, children and families and Nanaimo and Canada is a better place because of this loving lady! God Bless you Joy! Attachments:

I was looking for the site, Sharon, and I found the 30,000 Australians go to Canada to ski each year, and that Canada sent convicts to Australia.
Could you please post the link about migration from Australia to Canada.

Jan I have looked and looked but that only thing I can find now is a 1 sentence comment here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australians_in_CanadaI will keep trying to find it. My other source is www.multiculturalcanada.ca/Encyclopedia/A-Z/a25/2 which states that there were nearly 14,000 Australian-born persons living in Canada in 1991 but I can not find any more recent stats than that this morning. I tried and will keep looking when I get back from Vacouver if you remind me. One thing I do know is that Australians have rarely come to Canada in search of a better climate, lol. Our snow has stopped for the moment however which is a very good thing! Hope you had a great weekend and a Happy Monday to you. Louise, I most certainly agree, Joy Newall sounds like she was a remarkable woman for sure. Even though she lived close to where I live I do not think I had the opportunity ever to cross paths with her and I most certainly would of liked too. The name is familiar however and we may have met briefly at various women's conferences but the focus of those is women in business so I am not 100% certain that we did -- I like to think we may of. When I was involved in business development she was probably most likely still residing in Eastern Canada. These past five or so years have been pretty wasted years for me and prior to that I was more involved with Senior's issues. Thankfully, I did not have any connection with prisoner's rights but I applaud her for her advocacy. Canada is so fortunate to have had her.
