I know it is not Tuesday yet, but it soon will be.
This song "La Peregrinación" comes from " la Misa Criolla" a major piece of Argentine folk music, played by Ariel ramirez and the group Los Fronterizos, among the first I had contact with on coming to this country, and even got to see them live in the theatre some years ago. This little song, the second in "La misa Criolla" tells of the hardships that Mary and Joseph faced, looking for somewhere for Jesus to be born
La peregrinación The Pilgrimage
A la huella, a la huella To the footpath, to the footpath
José y María Joseph and Mary
por las pampas heladas Through the frozen plains
cardos y ortigas Thistles and nettles
A la huella, a la huella To the footpath, to the footpath
cortando campo across country
no hay cobijo ni fonda There is no blanket or shelter
sigan andando They just keep walking
Florecita del campo, Little flower of the countryside
clavel del aire Carnation of the air
si ninguno te aloja If no body will put you up
¿adónde naces? Where will you be born
¿Dónde naces, florcita? Where will you be born little flower
que estás creciendo, that is growing
palomita asustada, frightened little dove
grillo sin sueño grasshopper with no sleep
A la huella, a la huella To the footpath, to the footpath
José y María Joseph and Mary
con un Dios escondido With a God hidden
nadie sabía That no one knew about
A la huella, a la huella To the footpath, to the footpath
los peregrinos The Pilgrimages
préstenme una tapera Lend me an abandoned ranch
para mi niño for my little boy
A la huella, a la huella To the footpath, to the footpath
soles y lunas suns and moons
los ojitos de almendra Little almond eyes
piel de aceituna Olive coloured skin
Ay, burrito del campo Ay Little country donkey
Ay, buey barcino Ay little red ox
que mi niño ya viene, My little boy is coming
háganle sitio Make space for him
Un ranchito de quincha A little rustic stable
sólo me ampara Is all that is sheltering me
dos alientos amigos Two friendly breaths
la luna clara and the clear moon
A la huella, a la huella To the footpath, to the footpath
José y María Joseph and Mary
con un Dios escondido With a hidden God
nadie sabía That no one knew about
I hope others post their favourite Christmas music, and look forward to hearing them.
Happy Christmas Everyone, stay well and safe, and have a blessed day
