Well here it is Saturday ... the first Saturday in April which means that next Friday is Friday the Thirteenth .... I am meeting Big Sis Pat on this upcoming Friday the Thirteenth for coffee and a browse through our favourite shops. Did you know that Friday the Thirteenth is her lucky day? Hope to read your Saturday Snippets this month. Sharon Attachments:

Hello Sharon, and any one else who looks in. I still kept my proboards as that is where I go for the trivia, and so much more user friendly than facebook - everything is in order. This week, Mar del Plata got the tail end of a storm that did a lot of structural damage in the province and caused 17 deaths when buildings colapsed and electricutions. It was what they called a "downburst", caused by a mass of cold air being "exprimed " by two masses of warm air! Today we are going for supper at my son's new house, not quite a house warming, but almost. They aren't completely moved in yet and have been busy all this week installing, security measures, heating, cable TV, and making sure the water and gas funtion OK. They have a little dog now that Romina found for them - trust her! that they have called Laguna (lake) as that is where she was found. I am taking along some tuna pasties as that is a tradition on Easter Saturday. Next Saturday, we have a paella supper at the submariners, and Sunday a cultural act for the anniversay of the foundation of Salta, with the Salta residents. I have started a gardening course, after a pro didn't like my jungle garden, and so now its a case of what happens first, a professional gardener comes to help me put in order, or I gratuate as a gardener (3years) I have 3 recommended gardeners asked, but the only one of them that came to have a look, hasn't returned. Happy Easter everyone Daphne

Hi Daphne, nice to hear from you. So very sorry to hear about the storm and the resulting loss of lives ... such a tragedy/ It never ceases to amaze me that it seems everyday I learn something new on here. For example the weather term "downburst". I had not heard of this before so, of course, I had to go research it and in the simplest of terms it is a localized area of damaging winds caused by air rapidly flowing down and out of a thunderstorm and this downward flowing air must penetrate close to the ground. Damage from downbursts can be so severe that it is mistaken for tornado damage, however, the damage pattern from a downburst will be either straight-line or divergent, indicating the winds were flowing outward, rather than in a circular, converging pattern as in the case of a tornado. Fascinating but not something I would like to be around thank you very much. Interestingly we had strange wind and rain storms and even hail last week so Mother Nature is being not so nice it seems in not just South America but here in North America as well. How did the supper go at Reuben's? Tuna pasties sound lovely and a very interesting Easter Tradition. Hope to see some pics of the new home and a story about the almost housewarming for Global. Paella supper at the submariners, now that would be delightful too. The cultural act (is this like live theatre?) would be interesting. How many years is the anniversary celebration for? When was Salta founded? A gardening course you say? What pro had the nerve to not like your jungle garden? Love to hear how you will graduate as a gardener in 3 years if your recommended gardeners are not showing up to assist. For the record I happen to love your garden!!!!!! Attachments:

Good too see some weekend snippets here! How was your day out on Friday 13th, Sharon. I see it is 1.45 on Friday afternoon in your neck of the woods, as I write this on Saturday morning 14th, so I will have to wait!! Good to catch up with your news too, Daphne. I've always loved any pics of your garden you have shared. And you are as busy with your socialising as always. Fairly quiet this weekend I hope, still been raining this week, and four concerts, and my vege patch is nowhere near ready for planting. We've had the first hint of coolness in the air.... a nice change. All the best for a lovely weekend, everyone. Attachments:

I love the good life saying Jan. Perfect! Friday the Thirteenth was a typical one I suppose for me. I went off to meet Pat at Tim Horton's for 9 am unbeknownst to me that she had cancelled. My fault, not Pat's, as she had messaged me on FB but I missed the message. All was not lost. I enjoyed sipping my English Toffee Coffee as I people watched ... and went 10 am rolled around I went over to the Thrift store where I got the puppy's a Disney couch for $2.00 and two large bags of toys for 50 cents each. I bought a couple of new stuffed animals -- a Tiger and a Pink Teddy Bear for a whole 50 cents each. These are for the two puppies that will be going to new homes next week. I gave the Tiger to the young couple who will be coming to get their little boy and I will give the cute little pink bear to the lovely family who are getting their little girl on Monday. Sad but rewarding to know that two puppies are heading off to good homes. Three more to go. Attachments:

Glad you could make the most of the day on Friday, Sharon. Lovely the puppies are going to their new homes, with a toy too. I must admit I don't go into the op-shops, I need a good de-clutter, not more items...LOL.

You are having a great time with your gardening Jan which is wonderful as it is really very therapeutic and there is nothing better than fresh vegetables from your own garden -- good for you and great sense of accomplishment. I had an amazing day yesterday (Saturday). I have Rebekah overnight -- her parents were at a concert on Friday night. Around lunchtime a friend of Yvonne's came over and he took over our kitchen to make us a delicious pasta lunch complete with salad, garlic bread and wine. Can you believe that? What a treat! What a great fellow .... I was in awe and he is an awesome chef. His name is Orv and he told me his dad was a baker and that he and his brothers were taught at a very early age how to cook and it is something he has always enjoyed doing. He stayed and played with Rebekah, the puppies and the Mastiffs for a little bit and then continued on his way. It is just so encouraging to know that there really are some very nice people around. Yvonne, myself and Rebekah (who very much enjoyed her luncheon also) then dashed off to Costco and Walmart for a major shopping .... we only had two hours to get it done as we had to pick up Rebekah's parents at the ferry at 5 pm. We made it! Lovely Saturday ..... I hope everyone else enjoyed a fabulous day too. Sharon Attachments:

What a day.... and what friends you have there..... it was already a great day with Rebeckah's company.
It is Monday morning here now, and we had a good day yesterday, Church in the morning, and good chats afterwards, then friends came over in the afternoon.
Have a great week everyone!

All the best with the training, Sharon. Trust it will be an inspiring time as you learn what is required in the position, and get to know your colleagues.

I think I will need all the luck I can muster up Jan as the training seems to be quite intense but fun all at the same time. I have met so many people so far and I have only completed Day One. My classmates of which there must be 30 or so are each unique. One gal (Jill) is the mother of a 12 year old daughter who had moved here only six weeks ago from England to live with her mum here in Cedar (actually not far at all from where I live). Another is a 64 year old lady who has until recently been babysitting her two grandchildren -- her son and his wife have separated but share custody. Just a few weeks back the son's girlfriend moved in with the son and she (the babysitting grandma) was told by the son that she would have to get a real job. Can you believe that, my good grief. Apparently he phoned later to apologize for the bluntness in what he had said but the damage was done. She is quite the "card" though. Her name is Ruth and she shared her french fries with me yesterday so she is all good in my books, lol. Another is a Chinese chap, Robert, whose wife was having a baby yesterday ..... I hope she did not deliver until he got to the hospital after 4:30 but I will ask him today. There are a couple of young ladies from Vancouver who have moved here to live with their boyfriends. Nice gals. Couple of nice young men who aspire to be police officers but are going to work at Nordia to make some money in the meantime. etc. etc. etc. Very broad spectrum of ages and quite the vibrant group. Should be interesting to say the very least. There are three gals named Jessica in the group which adds to the confusion, at least to my personal confusion!
I will keep you posted.
Love, Sharon
