I am not sure if a thought or two is intended to be a quote or if it can be a reflection on something. I, of course, am going to go with the "reflection". Yesterday Barb mentioned her daugher and grand-daughters are camping and my daughter and her family are camping and so I have been thinking about camping quite a bit these past few days.
Camping was at one time only a rough, back-to-nature pastime for hardy open-air lovers, but it later became the standard holiday for vast numbers of ordinary families and many of today’s family-friendly campsites offer facilities to envy many hotels.
I remember as a child going on family camping trips (sleeping in a tent) and I remember the wonderful aromas of meals cooking outside. I think my dad did most, if not all, of the cooking. My mum and my sister did not like camping very much as they were not the least bit fond of the outdoor facilities (out houses) but my brothers and I always seemed to have a great time. Our bicycles always came with us (strapped to the roof of the car) and we spent hours riding about exploring. Life was simple and good.

Sharon, you made me think about our family camp out, fishing trips, Aunts and Uncles and all us cousins on the Colorado river. We didn,t have tents, me and my brother and cousins bedded down in the flat bed trailer while the adults fished. running thru the weeds collecting grasshoppers for bait lol. and Mom leaving a gallon jar of water in the open trunk and setting a bag on fire. or swimming in the river while everyone fished. My brother and i grew up to love fishing and camping. Those were the good old days when life was simple and safety wasnt a worry.

OK everyone now I am thinking about camping also. I have not been camping for years, but would like to go some where and camp and site see around the area. I love exploring old towns and even hiking in woods. Will have to work on hubby for next summer for us to do something like this.

So delightful to hear your comments Loretta and Barb.
Loretta your memories are so delightful ... I can picture you and your brother and cousins as real as if I were there. Thank you so much for sharing those memories and yes they were the good old days when life was simple and safety was not a worry, not one little bit! Hard to believe with the way societies are these days.
Barb I love exploring old towns too and hiking in the woods as you are never quite sure what you will come across. I hope you and your husband go out camping next summer. Love to hear how your planning progresses and which are your top 5 destination choices!

I did not go camping as a child in fact the first time I ever went camping in my life was on this motor bike, and we took the tent and everything on it, so that was less than 20 years ago. We had a lovely site at Leura in the Blue Mountains This is a pic of when we took Tilda away with us as well, and not the first time we went camping. We also had a trailer for the bike and went to many rallies and weekends with our Bike Club. The pics are not on computer. I remember when we went down the south coast in winter and the first time we froze, and I ended up with a bad case of bronchitis. After that we found that people got a powered site and took an electric heater and ran it in the tent. Attachments:

Wonderful post Jan. Reminds me that I was telling the kids yesterday that they learn something about camping every time they head out especially what "essentials" to take with them.
I have only been on a motorbike once in my life .... it is not a good memory but perhaps I will share it one day. It took place actually during a camping trip one Easter weekend when my oldest two children were not even old enough for school yet .... so a few years back, lol.
