Did you hear that entertainer Eddie Fisher (music superstar and household name in the early 1950s), whose singing career was overshadowed by scandals of his marriages to Debbie Reynolds and Elizabeth Taylor (arguably the most explosive sex scandal of Hollywood's golden age), has died of complications from hip surgery at a hospital in Berkeley (Thursday, Sept 23/10). He was 82. Fisher was also married to Connie Stevens (and a couple others -- I believe 5 marriages in total). I realilze this is an early post for the Tuesday Tunes for the week but I thought it appropriate to do a little tribute to Eddie Fisher. He's Carrie Fisher's (Princess Leia of Star Wars), Todd Fisher, Joely Fisher and Tricia Fisher's father. Carrie & Todd's mother was Debbie Reynolds. The other two girls Joely and Tricia's mother was Connie Stevens. Our friend, Emma Murray, reminded me of a song of his -- "Oh My Papa" which you can enjoy here: Attachments:

My tune for this week is dedicated to Sharon, as this time last year she had just arrived in Argentina and we were getting ready to travel to this place, Iruya, mountain village in NW Argentina, where Leo was born, and where we witnessed a very moving religious ceremony. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaYPwyzkztY&feature=related Goodbye little village of Iruya, (with scenery) Leo is currently in Salta city with a friend, and will be on his way to Iruya with a brother on Friday, in time for the annual festivities. Most of his family still live there. Some of the other video along side this one, also show some of the spectacular scenery on route. Wish you could return Sharon, Daphne Attachments:

Here is an approximate translation of the words of Goodbye Little village of Iruya Goodbye little village of iruyaCorner of mountain springs Beautiful flowering Jasmin For the year I have to return If the evils do not take me Beautiful flowering Jasmin Little bird, without your nest All that is left is your flight. The sun stops to look at you The moon, to make you shine Beautiful flowering Jasmin That how you ought to be Beautiful behind and in front Beautiful flowering Jasmin Little bird, without your nest All that is left is your flight. The sun and the moon were born To shine upon your destiny Beautiful flowering Jasmin Although a thousand years would pass I wouldn’t be able to forget you Beautiful flowering Jasmin Little bird, without your nest All that is left is your flight. Daphne I am honoured and humbled by your choice. This has become a very difficult time of year for me now. Not because I am sad but because I reflect so fondly on all the memories of our journeys together. I love you and Leo so much. Thank you again for everything and please say hello to all my Argentine "family"!

The Skye Boat Song. Scottish Music. The lad that's born to be King was Bonnie Prince Charlie. www.youtube.com/watch?v=86egt8PDmosSkye Boat Song words and music Sir Harold Boulton, 1884 Speed bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing, Onward, the sailors cry Carry the lad that's born to be king Over the sea to Skye Loud the winds howl, loud the waves roar, Thunder clouds rend the air; Baffled our foe's stand on the shore Follow they will not dare Though the waves leap, soft shall ye sleep Ocean's a royal bed Rocked in the deep, Flora will keep Watch by your weary head Many's the lad fought on that day Well the claymore could wield When the night came, silently lay Dead on Culloden's field Burned are our homes, exile and death Scatter the loyal men Yet, e'er the sword cool in the sheath, Charlie will come again.
