That is great Daphne, I love the costumes the men are wearing also.
For whatever reason I was reminded of songs and dances that I grew up with and the first one that came to mind was Chubby Checker and one of the many dances crazes of the sixties ... "The Twist". By the end of the 50s, rock and roll was making news all over America, and other 60s dance crazes like this and the Mashed Potato, and the Hully Gully gained in popularity but they have gone out of style now. Interestingly dances like the Swing and Jive, have never gone out of style and I believe they are holdovers from the 40s Jitterbug.
www.dailymotion.com/video/x4xy0n_chubby-checker-the-twist_musicI hope you enjoy this walk down memory lane and do be sure to check out the hair styles, clothes, eye glasses etc. when they show the pictures of the audience.
Kick back the rug and have yourself a sock hop! If you wish to sing along here are the lyrics:
Come on baby let's do the twist
Come on baby let's do the twist
Take me by my little hand and go like this
Ee-oh twist baby baby twist
Oooh-yeah just like this
Come on little miss and do the twist
My daddy is sleepin' and mama ain't around
Yeah daddy is sleepin' and mama ain't around
We're gonna twisty twisty twisty
'Til we turn the house down
Come on and twist yeah baby twist
Oooh-yeah just like this
Come on little miss and do the twist
Yeah you should see my little Sis
You should see my my little Sis
She really knows how to rock
She knows how to twist
Come on and twist yeah baby twist
Oooh-yeah just like this
Come on little miss and do the twist
Yeah rock on now
Yeah twist on now
Twist.
Have fun ... if you are looking for things to do at a children's birthday party these old dance styles are great ways for the little ones to entertain each other!
