Second to last Sunday in January...... the year is galloping by, no doubt trying to keep up with inflation! Down here in Argentina it has been a very warm month, almost every day above 30ºC, - that's 90F. Today it is threatened to be 34+ so I went for a walk early while it was still reasonable fresh. The city is packed with tourists and cars flow in at several the minute. The city centre is a mass of people and vehicles, not easy to move around, much less find somewhere to park. Anyway last Sunday it rained steadily all day so I sent a message to both my kids, saying that since the rain had put the damps on any other plans they might have had why not come here for a meal, your brother/ sister is coming anyway! It worked they all came!!! Today though is hot and sunny, so that tactic will not work! Last night we went to a theatre show.... this city has loads of theatres, but the summer shows are usually very expensive, this theatre on the other hand, has something on all year round, every day different music or dance shows, and last nights one we got in for two for the price of one! It was a folk dance show and quite different from what we usually see. It was all about weaving looms, pottery, flower stalls all put to music, and a kids puppet show where the smaller kids were " string puppets" dancing with the bigger kids and "managed" by adults. That was good. This year I am getting an excellent crop of plums from my two trees, I have made several jars of jam, and we have had stewed fruit, fruit crumble, fruit pies... trying to salve what I can from the fallen fruit that gets atacked by bugs, snails or the tortoise before I get a chance to collect it up. Any ideas for other ways to conserve "damaged " fruit for a couple of weeks or a month? I also have lemons, they are falling off the tree too, so send over the martini!! How is your Sunday? love to hear about it Daphne Attachments:

That sounds great, Daphne, and you are blessed to have your son and daughter so close. Also great you have live theatre accessible and affordable! But the sand on your beach is so grey! Pic of Bondi Beach the most popular in Sydney. Lots of love, Jan Attachments:

Hi girls lovely to read your posts ... the only suggest I could come up with Daphne for the plums, particularly with the hot hot temperatures would be to try to dry some!
I worked all day today so there is not much to tell. The weather was lovely, a bit of rain as the afternoon wore on but it must of got to almost double digets today -- lovely and warm (well warm by our standards).
Jan the beaches in Daphne's corner of the globe are very beautiful, it might of been the time of day or the camera focus that made them appear grey ... your beaches in Australia are absolute stunning!
Talk soon girls.
Love, Sharon

I never thought of the sand here as being grey Jan, I always thought it was sand colour LOL. That would explain why some one I know brought back a large bag of sand from Brazil where it is very white! I see your sea is a deeper blue too, while here it tends to be grey- green or silver, hence "Mar del Plata = Sea of silver" especially when the sun is rising, then it is very silvery.
As for drying the plums Sharon,, it might work in a drier climate, here it is humid hot, at times heavy humid heat, so they'd go mouldy before they dried. In fact they tend to go off very quickly once fallen from the tree, and there is at present the bitter-sweet smell of rotting fruit I havent yet picked up with the trowel. Daphne

Is this fruit from the tree that we talked about that you and Agos planted Daphne?

Hi Sharon. First the Agostina tree was not planted by us. It was something she found growing when she was two years old, a tiny sapling. We put a short piece of thick plastic piping round it so as not to go over with the grass cutter. In two years the tree was much bigger than she was and soon after that I had to cut away the plastic piping with a hot knife. It has always give one or two tiny golden plums, and now at 11 years old several small plums have fallen from it. At the same time the old plum tree is again producing an abundant crop of bigger red plums as it used to some years ago, when a neighbour had a tree - one of the first things cut down when the house next door changed hands. Well that must surely proove my theory that the two trees completamented each other, now that the Agostina tree has apparently reached maturity. Unfortunately I hadn't seen that there were so many plums on either tree, until they fell, and I am amazed that so much fruit was hidden up there. I would enjoy having an outlet to sell my homemade jams, but Leo is completely against it , so I give them away and just ask for the jars back! Getting blackberries out the front now! Daphne

You are going to be busy if the blackberries are ready now as they really produce.
Most, if not all, of my blackberry bushes were cut down last year but I am sure knowing how hardy these bushes are that they will be back in full force. They can be quite a pain really as they just take over everything but I do so love the fruit.
Keep smiling Daphne, it is contagious!
Love, Sharon

I know I am a day late but I worked yesterday .... that is my excuse and I am sticking to it. FOR TODAY Outside my window... it is still very dark so I can not report on much. I have been hearing the birds chirping early in the morning so I hope this is a sign that winter is behind us. I am thinking... about what a wonderful family I have. Paul, Kendra and Rebekah were here when I got home from work yesterday and they brought supper with them. WOW! I am thankful for... having two jobs that help me get through the financial obligations of each month. From the kitchen... I will be popping a coffee in the microwave soon to heat up but at the moment I am the only one up and everything is very peaceful and quiet in my home. Quite the change from yesterday as my eldest grand daughter, Kadynce, spent the night and when I got up she got up, lol! Three year olds are not known for being quiet .... at least my little one is not -- quite the opposite to be exact. I am wearing... still in my pjs and housecoat which are a substitute security blanket if you know what I mean, especially my housecoat. I am creating... I have a few ideas as to what I want to start creating ... I want to make some scarves for my grands and I would love to start sewing but there really does not seem to be enough hours in the day lately. I am going... nowhere I hope today. Yvonne is home so she might have errands to run but I am quite happy to stay here and be around for our Windows Live chat. I am reading... only newspapers and magazines at the moment. I subscribe to Canadian Living which I really enjoy but whenever Kadynce's mom is here they seem to disappear ..... lol I am hoping... that my brother is better again soon. He has had some complications and has been back and forth to Vancouver General these past two weeks. I am hearing... music in my head and it is a lovely unidentifiable melodious tune. Around the house... everything is peaceful. One of my favorite things... is meeting new people and I have these past couple of weeks. A few plans for the rest of the week: I have to work on Wednesday in Duncan, Wednesday night there is a staff meeting at my Nanaimo job and then Thursday night I have to work 5 to 10 -- huge VIP retirement sale at the furniture store. Then my usual Saturday and Sunday shifts there. Here is picture for thought I am sharing... Attachments:
