Here's a little summary about Australia Day for anyone interested. The day has become the country's biggest annual celebration with over 5000 events across NSW, let alone the other states. It commemorates the day Captain Arthur Philip landed at Port Jackson (Sydney) with the First Fleet in 1788 and took possession of the land for the British Empire. (Sadly in recent years the day is also known as Invasion Day to indigenous people). The day has been commemorated over the years, and it has now evolved into a family-community day, with some formalities, citizenship ceromonies and awarding of citizen of the year, national, state and local people being honoured. It is a public holiday and a fun day in our area with a community breakfast, ironperson events, water skiing display, raft and dragon races, outdoor live entertainment and fireworks, with market stalls and carnival rides on the side. The down side is that the weather forecast is for temps of 35C or around the 98F and around 39C in western Sydney. Last year we were staying with my daughter west of the Blue Mountains and her daughter, my grand, sang the National Anthem at their local event. It is a big day on Sydney Harbour, and we were privileged to be there a few times, starting with an early morning walk over the bridge. Click here australiaday.com.au/Attachments:

Sharon, Australia Day in Wednesday 26th January. We had a couple of other options on the day, as well as the official function for our area: #1. our chapter of First Fleeters celebration at a tavern over past Lismore. #2. A big family day out at the House with No Steps (support of mentally challenged) # 3. members of our church invite everyone out to their property for the day. However we aren't going to do any of those..... as it is forecast to be so hot we are going to use the voucher for Barry's birthday from the club and have lunch in the cool bistro there. Attachments:

I think that would be an excellent choice Jan. Enjoy every moment of the air conditioning!
